Type 1 Diabetes / Juvenile Diabetes Know the warning signs. There does not need to be a family history of diabetes in your family. It can appear at any age and the signs can often be blown off as 'just' the flu. Extreme thirst
Needing to use the bathroom frequently
Drowsiness
Sudden vision changes
Increased appetite
Sudden weight loss
Sweet smelling breath
Heavy, labored breathing My friend lost her 6 year old daughter to Sudden Onset Juvenile Diabetes. She didn't know what to look for. There doesn't seem to be much information out there for parents about Type 1 diabetes. Type 2 info is much more common. I'm working with her to try to get awareness out there.
